This next post I devote solely to my grandma; My one living grandparent, the only one I’ve ever known.
I’ve lived in Florida ever since I can remember, and her in Indiana…so when my family got the chance to visit there, she was a priority. The last time I saw her was the week of my cousin’s wedding, so it had been almost 3 years.
These last few [years] her health issues have started to get worse, which is so sad to me, and I’m extremely thankful to have her and to have been able to spend a little time with her earlier this month when we passed through. I told her I was now a photographer and brought my camera with me, and to my surprise she was thrilled that I was taking her picture(s)!
So that we did. We talked and she gardened, and I took pictures of her.
This is my grandmother. raw and unscripted.
I realized while talking with her and through the small amount of time we spent together that I take after her in some ways and I’m honored. Sometimes I wish that I had grown up around her, and that we were close…but then again I think of how much I appreciate her now and I don’t think it would be the same if I had.
I love you, Grandma.
